Portraits of a Musician

Chris is a local musician who reached out for a portrait session to create promotional photographs for his solo projects. He was especially drawn to my signature black and white aesthetic. After learning more about his goals, I created a mood board of concepts that I felt suited his image. He was immediately impressed and selected his favorites, which became the foundation for our session.

Chris brought a great mix of wardrobe options, giving us everything we needed to bring each idea to life. He used one of the hats I keep in the studio, which suited him perfectly. Before the session he had mentioned bringing one of his keyboards, but instead he arrived with a handful of old piano keys he had bought. They turned out to be the perfect prop, giving us a distinctive look that a full instrument could never provide.

After I took the very first frame, I looked at the screen and started laughing, quickly explaining that my reaction came from how good the image already looked. I showed it to him, and he said what I often hear from clients: “Is that me?” That moment set the tone for the rest of the session, which was filled with creative energy and collaboration. Chris was thrilled with the final portraits, and they look fantastic on his new website.
